Setting the Date
By Megan Mercer
Last Update:

Selecting a wedding date will be the first decision you make in planning your wedding. Until you set a date you will be unable to proceed with any other wedding plans.

Think long and hard about the date because it will impact every detail of the wedding from the colors and flowers to whether the wedding ceremony could be inside or outside. A great deal is riding on the date you choose so give the options some careful consideration and then select a date you can stick to.

When choosing a date, ask yourself…

  • What season or time of year do you prefer?
  • What day of the week do you prefer?
  • What time of day do you prefer?
  • How much time do you have/need to plan the wedding?
  • When are your dream ceremony or reception locations available?
  • When will work/school schedules allow vacation time for the wedding and honeymoon?
  • Are there any possible conflicts for you, your family or your attendants (such as another wedding, a vacation, a graduation, or a pregnancy/birth)
  • Is the prospective date on or near a holiday? How could this affect guest attendance, travel arrangements and wedding professional availability, etc.?
