Obviously you can't hire a caterer without checking
their availability for your date! You should also know
approximately
what time you would like food to be served. Also if
the caterer has worked at your location before, this
is a
plus. If not, you may need to meet at the reception
site to determine if all of the necessary equipment
is available
for food preparation, to decide the layout for a buffet
table, etc.
Wedding Size & Level
of Formality
Be prepared to give the caterer an estimate of
the number of people to be fed. Make sure that
the caterer
has done
a wedding of comparable size to your wedding.
Also think about whether you prefer a formal sit
down dinner
or
a buffet. Of course sit down dinners require
more servers and generally are much more expensive.
Budget Restrictions
Be prepared to give the caterer a definite budget figure
so he or she can steer you in the most practical direction.
You don't want to waste time being tempted by the most
elaborate dinner menus that you can't afford. A good
caterer will help you plan a delicious meal plan on
any budget!
