Wedding favors are
mementos for guests to take home. Giving
favors is a perfect way to thank your guests for attending
and taking
part
in the celebration! You don't want to
break the bank with the wedding party favors though,
so here are a few ideas that can be done inexpensively:
- Candles: Everyone
loves candles. Buy
small, inexpensive candles that match your decor.
Wrap them in tulle and
tie with ribbon.
Stick a small flower
or trinket in
the ribbon or note with a saying like "Burn for
Love!" All
of the candles don't have to be the same, using different
colors and
scents
will add more interest at the tables.
- Candies: Appeal
to your guest's
sweet tooth with assorted candies such as M&Ms,
Hershey Kisses, or mints in your wedding colors.
You could place the candies in a cupcake liner or wrap
them with tulle and a ribbon at each
place setting. Or you could
order some cute boxes from your printer that double
as place
cards
for the
reception.
- Place a few Hershey Kisses
in a plastic spoon, wrap them with tulle or cellophane
and attach a note with ribbon which reads, "A
spoon full of kisses from the Mr. & Mrs."
- Frames: Picture
frames are also a nice favor that can serve a double
purpose at the wedding. Use small frames to
hold the place cards or a message from the
bride and groom at the reception. Make sure that you
spread the word that the frames are the favors, or
add a small note
at the bottom that the guests should take the frames
home.
- Flowers: Small
flower arrangements at each place setting could double
as wedding favors and table decorations. You could
buy simple glass containers at thrift stores or dollar
stores. They don't have to match perfectly. If you're
using artificial
flowers
you
could
use terra cotta pots.
- Plants: Giving
a live plant as a wedding favor is something all of
your guests would love. Wrap small tree seedlings,
such as a citrus or any other kind of tree in tulle
or decorative paper. A strawberry plant or various
herbs that are in season are a nice gift. Your guests
will always remember your wedding after they plant
this unique gift.
- Potpourri: Make
your own sachets full of lavender or other potpourri
that you prefer. Sew a small bag from lace or buy some
delicate drawstring bags. The bags smell nice
and they will look pretty at your tables.
Theme or Holiday Weddings
If there is a special theme
to your wedding, continue that theme in your favors.
For example for a Valentine's Day wedding you could place
some candy hearts or red hots in a small heart shaped
box or wrap them up with red cellophane and a pretty
bow. For a Christmas wedding give candy canes as favors
or
have a custom ornament made with the names of the bride
and groom and the date of the wedding on it. The possibilities
are endless!
